I know this is a dream forum and you can't dream if you're not sleeping, but insomnia has been the biggest problem for me.

It's weird to be sleep about 4 hours a week...for one week, but if it continues trough a month, it gets serious. First I got nervous, then aggressive, then desperate.

I managed trough many before-sleep-rituals to control my sleeping disorder.

Any insomniacs out there?

4 hours in a week? That sounds pretty dangerous. I don't know how you could function in a day like that. If I stay up even 24 hours then as soon as I slow down to watch TV or something then I'm out like a light.

Did you start halucinating? I remember when I was younger trying to stay up for as long as I could and by the third day I started halucinating.

Well, it was weird to function when all you hope to have a nice 8 hrs sleep.

Well, I couldn't call that hallucinating, but I was paranoid, cranky, emotional, very, very, very nervous.

I've always had light sleep, and that was the period when I had to go to classes and take exams, so it was hard to concentrate. Even now I don't have nice all night sleep, but I'm not complaining. I'm happy when I nap in the afternoon, or when I wonder off to half-sleep when I have to do something boring.

Ive been a light sleeper since my kids were born, 15 years ago. I've never really gotten back into that pre-kid sleep pattern, where you could sleep a whole day without waking lol. The last couple of weeks tho, Ive only been getting a few hours per night, I'm usually in bed at 10pm shattered, but by 1pm Im wide awake, doesnt help that I have a bad neck at the moment, and a hubby that snores :? but it sure does make me cranky not getting enough quality sleep. I don;t know how you cope Algo !!!

This summer we went to one four-day music festival and as you can imagine - we had no sleep, especially because they put me to sleep on the floor. I got home convinced I'll sleep all day, but instead I went to bed at 2 in the morning.

And another thing. If I stay up till the sunrise - no sleep for me.

*jealous of people who can sleep all day...or in the bus...*

I have the other problem I guess. I went to bed last night at about 9pm and got up at 8am, 11 hours later. The today I had a bowl of home made chicken soup I made last night and at 1pm or so went back to bed until almost 5pm. Wow, could I sleep anymore? I'm starting to make cats look like real go getters and they sleep 18 hours a day. tehehe

Sorry to hear that Linda. I think the problem with medications to help you sleep is that people tend to get immune to them after a while. Best remedy for that may be to try and ask your doctor for a different prescription. I'm not sure though, I've never had a sleep problem but hopefully a member might no better about this kind of condition and some suggestions to remedy it for you. I'm gonna think of some ideas though and see what I come up with k?

@lindaw

Maybe you should try to sleep over at some friend's house. It once helped me.
My list was

- Trying to exhaust myself
- Ritual before sleeping - like always after a shower read same amount of pages of some book, listen to music and then try to sleep. It will take a while - but ritual always helps.
- Less food in the evening

i feel bad for u. that's nasty. anyway, i have only suffered fr insomnia mildly in the past and thought it was the worst thing in the world. u feel alone, frustrated, out of control and bewildered. i was told that you should exercise early in the day (NOT before bed, as that wakes u up!). also, i read somewhere that alternative medicines & health food stores may offer up some unique methods of dealing with insomnia - NOT conventional sleeping pills - which is rediculous...just a bandaid. sorry, that's all i have on insomnia. hope it helps.
