Unsettling 12 O'Clock Midnight/Rat/Termite Dream

Well, I had to write this one down as I found it a little unsettling and I'm trying to determine myself what it means. It was a little sporadic but I got the general idea. Bare with me, it's a wee hard to follow and long.

So as I recall it I was at work in a bar or store (not positive which) and most of the time I was there was a blur but I distinctly recall looking at the clock and it was exactly midnight. I remember thinking, wow I didn't mean to work so late. There were two girls at the front counter and I basically said goodbye and although it was closing time, they were gonna stay later and play cards so I just let.

I guess why I find this unsettling is the association with the clock being midnight. We've all heard of the 11th hour reference, and well in this dream I was past the 11th hour and right at midnight.

So from there I am at this house. A big house that isn't mine in real life although in the dream I remember thinking that I stayed there so I guess it was mine or atleast where I was temporarily.

So I was in the bathroom and checking the plumbing. The plumbing seemed fine, I was looking for leaks. After removing a panel on the wall however I uncovered a colony of termites. I remember thinking WOW!!! With that many termites it shouldn't be long until they devour the house and it collapses. I went looking for my ant traps and found one. They were big traps about as round as a plate, an inch high and made of aluminum or some sort of metal. I've never seen an ant trap like this before.

When I picked up the trap it was very heavy and I heard a squeal and figured it had maybe caught a mouse in it also, but I knew even though it was an ant trap that it had caught many hundreds or even thousands of termites, but not enough to even dent their numbers. I then went on to find another empty trap and I placed it in the wall where I saw all the termites earlier. Even though it may not catch them all, the trap had a poison food in it that I thought they may ingest and share and kill them all.

After this I went outside to the back parking lot as this place I was staying was evidently a lowrise building complex about 2-3 stories tall. In the parking lot was a huge pile of dead rats about 20 feet across and 3-4 feet high. There were probably thousands of them and I knew in my dream that they had come from the building so apparently it had a bad rat problem also. I wasn't sure who killed them or how they were killed but upon closer inspection I saw some other live rats starting to bite the dead ones and eat them.

Next thing I knew I was at a store and my old boss was there also who I was working for again apparently, but we didn't really speak at first. I remember thinking that this time I was more mature and responsible and was doing good at work and he knew it also and I didn't even bother with small talk. We were there right before the store opened and they opened the doors and I went right to the plumbing section where I started looking at different sized faucets (apparently in case I had to fix a leak in the future) and then my boss came over and was looking for something also and we spoke a wee bit about the plumbing.

Then I was back at the parking lot of the building where all the rats were, but this time the pile was much smaller and I knew that the rats that were still alive had eaten the dead ones and carried many away, presumably to eat them later.

After this I remember being in a car with a sunroof open and I was lounging and the weather was nice and my step brother showed up and got in the car next to me and I told him we had some more video games to give him. After this I woke up.

So for some history now. I did have a leak in my bathroom that the plumber just fixed a week ago. It was a leak from the faucet that dripped downstairs into the landlords dance studio. I live above her studio. I also set ant traps in spring as every spring we seem to get an ant infestation that lasts a short while and then they suddenly disappear, but no termites and I have never seen a rat or mouse here in 7 years.

I guess the disturbing part was the 12th hour timeline and rats eating rats and termites eating down the house. The cannibalizing with the rats and the termites eating the house which is also their home at the time.

And finally the 12 midnight reference, being the final hour/minute of the day I couldn't help but wonder if this dream was trying to prepare me for something coming to an end. Hopefully not me. I am working very hard on a new website that takes all of my time. Maybe it is time onstraints or fear I won't finish on time or whatever. I guess only time will tell, but atleast I have this dream documented.
