im flaayiiiing!

when i was in primary school, i used to have dreams of me flying.
i think it started with some bullies at the playground who were chasing me. and when they nearly caught me, i tried really hard (not sure if i flapped my arms or not, but i think i did, like a little birdy ) and i came loose from the ground, with effort. and i missed the metal fence that is around the playground by inches.
i flew home, and the bullies kept following me. till i landed in front of the door, and went inside real quick.

after that i dreamt of flying several times more, sometimes the same dream, sometimes a completely different one, but including the same type of flying.

i have heard dreaming of flying is a good thing, but unfortunately the dreams have stopped :(
they were quite pleasant dreams btw, and no, i didnt really get bullied at school.. (not in the full sense of the word that is)

I used to dream of flying too Talon! Same sort of thing, I had to run really fast and flap then I was off like a slow version of Superman lol. The feeling of freedom flying above the rooftops was awesome, no feeling came close to that! By the end of the dream though, it got harder and harder to 'lift-off' and Id often wake feeling dissappointed that I couldnt manage it again :( Like you also, my flying dreams are less frequent, maybe only once a year now!

Flying dreams are very common during youth... because of that feeling of freedom everyone always describes. Obviously, as kids, we feel like we are being constantly controlled by the rules of our parents, teachers, our peers and society in general. We want to do our own thing... spread our wings and fly as the old saying goes. You will often hear young women speak of flying dreams also, especially if they are in relationships or at a point in their lives where they feel stifled in their ability to grow as a person... or just be themselves.

My favorite repetitive flying dream as a kid was of me sitting on the back of a magic carpet while a little fat man played tour guide for me. We always flew through the air above this little stretch of interstate that was close to my home -- the same interstate I contemplated using as my escape route every time I wanted to run away from home... (on my bike, of course! lol!)

At first, I was frightened by the little fat man, but eventually I came to understand that he was a buddha. Now, mind you, at the time, I was not at all familiar with Buddhism or Hinduism... all I knew (from my mom) was that a buddha represented wisdom... and if you rubbed his tummy, you would have good luck. lol! Of course, I was all for the good luck stuff! Ha!

I've since learned more about the Buddhist faith and recognize even more significance of The Buddha... as he was a wise teacher of peaceful life principles. Although I do not practice Buddhism, many of these principles I do subscribe to and try to live my life by today because they make sense to me in my quest for internal peacefulness in this crazy world of ours.
